History/Overview
Chevrolet introduced the Trailblazer last year as a new addition to its compact crossover lineup. This subcompact model slots in below the Equinox and is a more attractive and modern alternative to the Trax, which remains Chevy’s true entry-level utility model. If you recognize the Trailblazer name, that’s because it was used on a mid-size SUV model from the 2000s.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Trailblazer gains a heated steering wheel, and satellite radio is now standard across the line.
Available Trims
Chevrolet offers the Trailblazer in LS, LT, Activ and RS trim levels. Depending on trim, the Trailblazer is powered by either a 1.2L or 1.3L turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Front-wheel drive models get a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and AWD brings a nine-speed automatic.
Standard Features
LS trim comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, auto on/off headlights, LED daytime running lights, six-speaker audio, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, air conditioning, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Note that Chevrolet technically includes heated front seats and steering wheel, but says these items may not be available until later in 2022 as a dealer retrofit, likely because of supply chain problems.
Trailblazer’s standard safety package comprises forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.
LT adds fancier 17-inch wheels, LED fog lights, heated side mirrors, cruise control, passive keyless entry, and remote engine start.
Activ trim brings LED taillights, leather-trimmed steering wheel/shifter, a rear centre armrest, and leatherette upholstery.
Finally, RS models gain 18-inch wheels, and cloth/leatherette upholstery.
Key Options
A convenience package adds automatic A/C, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, rear-seat USB ports, a 120-volt power outlet, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and lighted vanity mirrors.
A driver confidence package brings rear park assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The sun and liftgate package includes a dual-pane sunroof, and hands-free tailgate.
The tech package adds adaptive cruise, larger infotainment display, wireless phone charging, a Bose stereo, LED headlights, and a 4.2-inch driver info display.
Fuel Economy
The thriftiest Trailblazer is a 1.3L/FWD model, whose fuel consumption estimates are 8.0/7.2 L/100 km. With the 1.2L/FWD combo, the highway rating increases to 7.6 L/100 km. The 1.3L/AWD powertrain is rated for 8.9/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Chevrolet Trailblazer’s competitors include the Nissan Qashqai, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Toyota Corolla Cross, Subaru Crosstrek, Ford Ecosport, Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, Mitsubishi RVR, and Mazda CX-30.
