NEW FOR 2015:
- All-new model.
While Canadian buyers continue to shift out of traditional SUVs and passenger cars into crossovers, there’s still a strong market for full-size sport utility vehicles. Case in point: an all-new generation of Tahoe.
The Tahoe continues to be derived from the popular Silverado half-ton truck, and gains many of its key advances including a fully boxed frame with greater structural rigidity, electric power steering, and an all-new engine. Unlike Tahoes of the past, it gets unique styling inside and out with a more aerodynamic visage, distinctive headlamps, and a cabin design that’s more in line with a modern crossover than a workhorse pickup. Major improvements to insulation make this the quietest Tahoe to date. Inside, second- and third-row space remain consistent with the last year’s model. Front bucket seats are now standard, though a front bench seat is available as an option on the base LS trim for total seating capacity of nine.
Although the Tahoe continues to use a live rear axle and relies on a small-block V8 for power, there’s plenty of new technology to bring it into the 21st century. High-end models can be had with magnetic dampers, power folding and tumbling rear seats, hands-free power tailgate, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay, in-car 4G WiFi, and a wide array of active safety systems.
For now, the Tahoe is offered exclusively with a 5.3-litre pushrod V8 with cylinder deactivation, but it gains direct injection for added fuel-efficiency. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission. The LS and LT trim levels can be had with two-wheel drive, or four-wheel drive; the LTZ comes exclusively with four-wheel drive. Maximum towing is an impressive 8,600 lbs for a properly equipped 2WD Tahoe.
The Tahoe LS features 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, automatic locking rear differential, trailer towing provisions, heated power exterior mirrors with driver’s spotter mirror, LED daytime running lights, black assist steps, black roof rails, rear park assist, reverse camera, remote keyless entry, remote starter, alarm, trip computer with full colour display, rain-sensing wipers, tri-zone automatic climate control, power windows, tilt steering column, conversation mirror, illuminated vanity mirrors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, six-way power adjustable passenger’s seat, premium cloth upholstery, 60/40 split-folding second row, 60/40 split folding third row, cargo management system, 110-volt power outlet, 4.2-inch display audio system with AM/FM/CD/satellite radio, six-speakers, two USB ports, one SD card reader, aux-in jack, Bluetooth, and OnStar with 4G LTE internet and WiFi.
Tahoe LT adds forward collision alert, lane-departure warning with vibrating driver’s seat, power height-programmable tailgate, leather upholstery, 10-way power passenger seat, heated front seats, memory driver’s seat and mirrors, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, garage door opener, power adjustable pedals, tilt and telescoping steering column, 8.0-inch MyLink display audio system, nine-speaker Bose sound system, and five USB ports.
Tahoe LTZ adds magnetic ride control, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, HID headlights, fog lights, blind-spot monitoring system with lane-change alert, rear cross-traffic assist, front and rear parking sensors, body colour side mouldings, exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals and power folding, chrome-accented assist steps, chrome-accented roof rails mouldings, proximity key with push-button start, power tilt and telescoping steering column, heated steering wheel, perforated leather upholstery, 12-way power adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, power-folding third-row bench, and 10-speaker Bose sound system.
