General Motors’ decision to import the Orlando compact people mover into Canada was a bold one, but it ultimately didn’t pay off. The entire micro-van segment has stagnated and the first casualty is the Korean-made Orlando (the Mazda5 won’t be replaced after this product cycle, and we doubt the Rondo will, either).
Though it isn't the most popular vehicle on Chevy lots, it's a pragmatic buy. Its size makes it maneuverable compared to conventional minivans, and it offers seating for seven. Like the Cruze, the Orlando's ride is quiet and smooth. The interior is nicely styled, and includes plenty of useful storage including a cubby behind the stereo system. For 2014, Chevy’s MyLink system is now included as standard equipment on the 2LT and LTZ level.
The Orlando uses a 2.4-litre direct-injection four-cylinder engine. A six-speed manual transmission is standard in the LS, 1LT and 2LT models, and can be optioned to a six-speed automatic on the LT models. The LTZ gets the automatic as standard equipment.
Features on the LS include 16-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, child view mirror, OnStar, engine block heater, black door handles, automatic headlights, manual mirrors, variable intermittent wipers, rear washer/wiper, console with open storage, driver information centre, tilt steering wheel, illuminated vanity mirrors, cloth seats, four-way manually adjustable front seats, flat-folding front passenger seat, 60/40 split-folding second-row seat, 50/50 split-folding third-row seat, alarm, a six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, aux-in jack, and satellite radio.
Key options include air conditioning with cabin air filter and Bluetooth phone connectivity.
The 1LT adds air conditioning, chrome grille surround, body-colour door handles, privacy glass, express up/down front windows, power-adjustable heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, console with closed storage, driver’s seat armrest, cruise control, floor mats, USB port, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, front console with closed storage, and premium cloth seats.
Key options include Vehicle Interface Package (leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth streaming audio, Bluetooth phone), remote starter (requires automatic transmission), and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The 2LT adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, tire pressure monitoring system, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity, and MyLink infotainment system with 7.0-inch touchscreen display.
Key options include navigation with rear parking camera, power six-way driver’s seat, heated front seats, rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, and remote starter (requires automatic transmission).
The LTZ adds six-speed automatic transmission, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, rear park assist, remote starter, body-colour door handles with chrome strip, chrome body side mouldings, cargo cover and net, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated seats, and six-way power driver’s seat.
Key options include navigation with rear parking camera, leather upholstery, and a sunroof.
