History/Overview
Since 2005, the Equinox has been Chevrolet’s competitor in the compact crossover segment, where it has consistently been among the larger offerings in the class. The current third-generation model arrived in 2018.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
The 2022 model year brings the third-gen Equinox’s first major update. It’s all about looks, however, as the vehicle’s underpinnings and powertrains are unchanged.
Available Trims
Chevrolet offers the Equinox in LS, LT, RS and Premier trim levels. All use a 1.5L turbo four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission; LS and LT come with either front- or all-wheel drive, and RS and Premier are AWD-only.
Standard Features
LS trim comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, heated side mirrors, six-speaker audio, USB charging ports, a 7.0-inch infotainment display, heated front seats, passive keyless entry, air conditioning, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
LS also includes a suite of driver safety assists comprising forward collision and pedestrian detection with automatic braking, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.
LT adds LED daytime running lights, a 4.2-inch driver info display, a power driver’s seat with lumbar, and lighted sun visors.
RS gains 19-inch wheels, blind spot monitor, lane change and rear cross-traffic alerts, front and rear park assist, dual-zone automatic A/C, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, a power tailgate, and LED taillights.
Premier downsizes to 18-inch wheels, and adds chrome exterior trim, fog lights, hands-free tailgate, a 120-volt power outlet, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, an HD backup camera, heated steering wheel, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather seating, safety alert driver’s seat, an integrated garage door remote, and wireless smartphone charging.
Key Options
LS trim offers convenience (power driver’s seat, 4.2-inch driver info display) and driver confidence (blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic/lane change alerts, and rear park assist) packages.
An LT True North pack brings a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone A/C, navigation in an 8.0-inch display, power tailgate, heated steering wheel, USB data ports, a 120-volt outlet, front and rear park assist, blind spot monitor, and lane change/rear cross-traffic alerts.
The LT confidence and convenience pack bundles blind spot monitoring, lane change/cross-traffic alert, dual-zone A/C, a power tailgate, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
An advanced safety package (LT and RS) adds adaptive cruise and surround vision cameras.
The RS Plus package brings a sunroof, navigation, 8.0-inch infotainment, and a 120-volt outlet. An RS leather pack gets leather seating and a seven-speaker stereo.
Choose a Premier Plus model for navigation, a power front passenger seat, and a sunroof. Premier’s driver confidence II package adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a power front passenger seat.
Fuel Economy
Chevrolet’s fuel consumption estimates for the Equinox are 8.9/7.7 L/100 km (city/highway) with front-wheel drive, and 9.4/8.0 with AWD.
Competition
With the Equinox, Chevrolet competes with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Buick Envision, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
