Chevrolet's compact Equinox crossover gets new styling for 2016, along with a longer list of standard safety and tech features that now includes a colour touchscreen stereo and backup camera.
Equinox continues to come with a choice of two engines. The base motor is a 2.4L four-cylinder that makes 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque, and the upgrade is a 3.6L V6 that cranks out 301 hp and 272 lb-ft. The four-cylinder can be had with front- or all-wheel drive, while V6 models are AWD-only; all drivetrains come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption estimates are 10.5/7.3 L/100 km (city/highway) for 2.4L FWD models and 11.5/8.2 with AWD. V6 models are rated 14.9/10.1 L/100 km.
Prices start at $27,170 for the LS model, which uses the 2.4 engine and FWD, to $38,830 for an LTZ V6 model.
Standard equipment includes body-coloured door handles, black power-adjustable side mirrors, 17-inch aluminum wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks and windows, four-way driver and two-way front passenger seat adjustment, cloth upholstery, sliding rear seats, six-speaker stereo, and Bluetooth.
The mid-range LT is a popular choice, and comes with remote engine start, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, heated front seats, eight-way power driver's seat, Bluetooth audio streaming, and Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system.
