NEW FOR 2015:
-All-new model
The midsize pickup truck segment has been shaken up in a major way with the arrival of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. One of two midsize trucks offered by GM, its modern design makes rivals from Toyota and Nissan look and feel dated. A global product, the Canyon features a stout ladder frame chassis, and a cabin that’s leaps and bounds ahead in terms of fit and finish. The Canyon also benefits from a serious infusion of technology: all models receive standard reverse camera, and many can be had with Chevy’s MyLink infotainment system. Also available are several segment firsts including lane-departure warning and collision warning.
The Colorado is offered in Extended Cab with a 6’2” box, or a Crew Cab with either 5’2” or 6’2” boxes. The Colorado also gets an entirely new line of direct-injection engines. A 2.5-litre four-cylinder produces 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque, and comes with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The ubiquitous 3.6-litre V6 also finds a home under the hood, and comes paired exclusively to a six-speed automatic. Both motors are available with 2WD or 4WD.
A diesel model will arrive for model year 2016.
Trim levels include the base Colorado, WT, LT, and Z71.
The base Colorado is exclusively available with the four-cylinder engine, six-speed manual transmission, 2WD, and the extended cab configuration with a rear-seat delete. Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, vinyl upholstered bucket seats, power four-way adjustable driver’s seat, vinyl floor, tilt-adjustable steering column, tire-pressure monitoring system, trip computer, six-speaker AM/FM stereo with USB input and aux-jack, cargo box lighting, locking tailgate, chrome rear bumper with integrated step, reverse camera, manual adjustable mirrors, and automatic headlamps.
WT models add the availability of the V6 engine, automatic transmission, and the Crew Cab body style with either 5’2” or 6’2” boxes. The interior receives cloth upholstery and carpeted floors, tinted glass, and rear seats with under-seat storage. 4X4 models add four-wheel drive, 2-speed electronically controlled transfer case, front recovery hooks, and front recovery hooks. The WT Convenience Package adds remote keyless entry, alarm, cruise control, and dampened opening and closing tailgate. Buyers can also add a trailer towing package, and upgrade to the Chevrolet MyLink system which includes a 4.2-inch colour infotainment system with Bluetooth, Onstar with 4G LTE WiFi, plus various exterior appearance accessories.
LT trims receive standard automatic transmission, tilting and telescoping steering column, body-colour rear bumper with integrated step, body-colour door handles, 17-inch alloy wheels, overhead console, cruise control, remote keyless entry with alarm, OnStar, 8.0-inch colour infotainment system with MyLink, three additional USB ports, and XM satellite radio.
LT buyers can upgrade to the optional Safety Package, which adds pre-collision warning and lane-departure warning. The LT Convenience Package adds front fog lamps, remote starter, rear defroster, and dampened opening and closing tailgate. The Luxury Package adds heated front seats, power front lumbar support, power four-way adjustable passenger seat, single-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, projector-beam headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, chrome door handles and chrome rear bumper. Buyers can also add leather upholstery, navigation, and a seven-speaker Bose sound system.
The rough and tumble Z71 offers Colorado buyers a small truck that’s ready to tackle whatever you throw its way. It includes standard automatic transmission, all-terrain tires, Z71 off-road suspension, transfer case shield, remote vehicle starter, fog lamps, projector beam headlamps, dampened tailgate, full-size spare tire, automatic climate control, rear defroster, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, leatherette and cloth upholstered seats with heating, power four-way adjustable passenger seat, and power front lumbar support. It’s worth noting that the Z71 does not come standard with 4X4; it’s an option. Other key options include a trailer-towing package, navigation, and a seven-speaker Bose sound system.
