NEW FOR 2015:
- New Z/28 model focuses on track performance.
- New colour: Blue Velvet.
Chevrolet has channeled its past as a road-racing champ with the new Camaro Z/28 for 2015. It’s a track-honed model designed to show the world that the Camaro has the guts to compete with the best machines the world has to offer. With carbon ceramic brakes, a serious aero kit, thinner glass, the 505-hp 7.0-litre heart from the Corvette Z06 and a 300-lb weight reduction, this Oshawa-built monster can haul itself around Germany’s famed Nurburgring in 7:37:47 – faster than a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.
The rest of the Camaro range continues for the final model year of this generation effectively unchanged. And that means if you like its retro-modern styling, now might be the time to snag a deal on one. Very much a “heart” car, the Camaro has a somewhat cramped interior and poor outward visibility, but few cars on the planet go – or sound as good as it, particularly the V8-powered SS and ZL1. The Camaro is more comfortable than you might think, too, thanks to fully independent suspension and a modern chassis.
For what is arguably a niche product, there’s a Camaro for everyone. The basic LS and LT models come with V6 power, but there’s also the tire-shredding V8-powered SS and ZL1. Other than the coupe-only LS, these models can be had with a power-operated convertible top. For those who want nimbler handling Camaros, there’s the 1LE handling package for 1SS and 2SS models, and the ultimate Z/28, both of which come in coupe only and paired to a six-speed manual.
1LS includes 18-inch painted aluminum wheels, limited-slip differential, hydraulic power steering, dual exhaust with bright tips, body colour front fascia and rear diffuser, tinted glass, automatic lights, body colour power mirrors, body colour lower rocker panels, manual air conditioning, pollen filter, arm rest, cruise control, carpeted floor mats, trip computer with compass, oil monitoring system, dome light with illuminated entry, keyless entry, OnStar, 12-volt power outlet, tilt and telescoping steering column, power windows with auto up/down, cloth upholstery, manual four-way driver seat, manual two-way passenger seat, rear-seat trunk pass-through, six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with aux-in jack and satellite radio.
