You pay for those looks inside where the high beltline and chopped roofline seriously affect outward visibility. The interior design is retro-cool but cheap in execution and the wide-spoke steering wheel is an ergonomic misstep. The V6 engine is strong and relatively fuel efficient while the 426-hp SS V8 model storms like a proper pony car. If that’s not enough, the ZL1 sports a 580-hp supercharged, 6.2L LSA V8, making this the most powerful Camaro ever. And it handles too. The Camaro with the flip-top gives pony car fans one other choice besides the Mustang Convertible for top-down frolicking. The car sports a simple cloth top with a glass rear window and small quarter windows. There have been some structural improvements to keep the chassis stiff. Rear seat room suffers marginally, but with the top down, the coupe’s terrible outward visibility is a distant memory. For 2013 we get a ferocious ZL1 version with a heavily reinforced chassis to handle those 580 ponies. Hats with chin straps recommended. Available as coupe and convertible, Camaro has a choice of four engine options (the naturally-aspirated V8 in the SS is available in two different states of tune depending on transmission choice - LS3 and L99), in no less than seven trim levels. A 3.6-litre V6 is used in the 1LS, 2LS, 1LT and 2LT trim lines, with a six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic. Two 6.2-litre V8 engines are available in the Camaro 1SS and 2SS; a 400-horsepower version (L99) with a six-speed automatic, or 426-horsepower version (LS3) with six-speed manual transmission. The L99 engine includes Active Fuel Management, which shuts off half the cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy. The ZL1 uses a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 with six-speed manual transmission. The coupe comes in 1LS, 2LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1 trims. Convertible models are available in 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1 trims.
