Cadillac may be a luxury brand built on tradition, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to adapt to changing times. Take the XT5, a compact upscale crossover that places this old-school brand in the middle of a thoroughly modern – and very popular – vehicle segment. The XT5 has been around since 2017, when it replaced the SRX.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
Changes to the 2022 Cadillac XT5 amount to trim adjustments so minor they don’t even affect the car’s price.
Available Trims
The XT5 lineup begins with Luxury trim, and from there you can move up to Premium Luxury and Sport packages. Luxury and Premium Luxury models use a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine; a 3.6L V6 is optional in Premium Luxury and standard in Sport. Luxury starts with FWD and can be optioned to AWD, and AWD is standard in the two upper trims. All XT5 models get a nine-speed transmission.
Standard Features
Luxury trim comes with 18-inch wheels, cornering lights, LED headlights, power tailgate, power driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, eight-speaker audio, 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless entry, and an integrated home remote.
The standard safety package comprises automatic high beams, forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, front and rear park assist, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and GM’s safety alert seat.
Premium Luxury and Sport trims add auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, hands-free tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, blind spot monitoring, lane change alert, ambient lighting, electric steering column adjustments, rear cross-traffic alert, and wireless phone charging. Sport models also get 20-inch wheels.
Key Options
Most XT5 option packages are limited to Premium Luxury and Sport trims: a driver assist package adds adaptive cruise control, enhanced collision mitigation, and reverse automatic braking; a platinum pack brings semi-aniline leather seats, leather dash and door trim, performance suspension with chassis damping control, and premium floor mats; and a tech bundle adds digital gauges, a head-up display, surround vision, digital rearview mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and automatic parking assist.
Fuel Economy
Cadillac estimates the XT5’s fuel consumption at 10.8/8.2 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and FWD, and 11.2/8.7 L/100 km with AWD. V6 models are rated for 12.9/9.2 L/100 km.
Competition
With the XT5, Cadillac goes up against a number of popular models in the compact luxury crossover class, like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Audi Q5; other competitors are the Volvo XC60, Lincoln Corsair, Lexus NX, Buick Envision, Acura RDX, Infiniti QX50, Jaguar E-Pace, and the Land Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport.
