Introduced in 2019, the Cadillac XT4 puts this upscale GM brand into the luxury subcompact crossover mix. It's also a well-done attempt to attract younger drivers to the brand. This attractive little utility has taut overhangs and slim-line lighting that bring a modern look to Caddy showrooms. The XT4 boasts good interior space for people and cargo, and a tall seating position aids visibility.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, the instrument panel upper cover may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the passenger-front airbag may not open and inflate properly in a crash.
Safety Risk:
An airbag that doesn't inflate properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective Actions:
None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers. General Motors will instruct dealers to replace the instrument panel upper cover before each vehicle is delivered.
Issue:
On a small number of vehicles, the wrong owner's manual may have been included with the vehicle. As a result, a person may not understand how use the vehicle safely, including how to properly install a child seat.
Safety Risk:
Incorrect information in an owner's manual could cause confusion. A child seat that is not installed properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Corrective Actions:
General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the owner's manual.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the lower beam headlamps not to turn on as it becomes dark outside if the multi-function switch is in the "OFF" or "PARKING LAMP" position. This could also cause the daytime running lamps (DRLs) to turn off when the vehicle is moving. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations.
Safety Risk:
Headlamps and/or DRLs that don't turn on could reduce visibility, make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the body control module (BCM)software.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, the automatic headlamps may not turn on soon enough as it becomes dark outside. Canadian regulations require automatic headlamps to turn on when the ambient light level drops below a certain point (1000 lux).
Safety Risk:
Headlamps that don't turn on as it becomes dark outside could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the body control module (BCM) software.
Issue:
On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear when backing up.
Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with Surround Vision feature.
Safety Risks:
A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle's software. Certain model year vehicles will also require replacement of the video processing module (VPM).
Issue:
On certain vehicles, a sensor in the electronic brake boost system may have a bad connection. Under certain driving conditions, this could cause a loss of brake assist. If this happens, there would be a sudden increase in brake pedal force required to slow or stop the vehicle.
Safety Risk:
Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions:
General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the electronic brake boost module.
