For 2009, the Cadillac DTS receives trim changes, including new rust-inhibiting brake rotors, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, and a speed limit advisor through the driver information centre. Revisions to the interior include a simplified sunroof control system with "express close" feature, valet key, steering column lock, and Tuscany-colour leather seating.
The DTS uses two versions of a 4.6-litre V8, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. On the DTS Luxury, the engine makes 275 horsepower; it can be optioned to a version that makes 292 horsepower, which is standard on the DTS Platinum. There is also a long-wheelbase DTS-L, primarily for limousine use, which uses the more powerful engine.
Features on the DTS Luxury include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, fog lamps, front cornering lights, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, variable intermittent wipers, cruise control, floor mats, driver information centre, tire pressure monitoring system, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, illuminated vanity mirrors, power windows with front express up/down and rear express down, simulated Bubinga wood accents, eight-way power leather seats, fixed rear seat with pass-through, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input and XM satellite radio, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, speed-sensitive variable-assist steering, automatic xenon headlamps, keyless remote, and OnStar with Turn by Turn Navigation plan.
The DTS Platinum adds 18-inch chromed wheels, magnetic ride control, Tuscany full leather upholstery, leather instrument panel top pad, sunroof, LED foot well lighting, heated leather-wrapped and wood wheel, illuminated door sill badges, and navigation system.
A big, luxurious sedan in the old-school Cadillac tradition, the DTS is nimble and very comfortable. An optional front bench seat makes for six-passenger seating. The base engine is sufficient for this car, but the higher-horsepower engine is a good fit, especially with the corresponding performance enhancements and the extra luxury touches. Available options include a lane departure warning system and a side "blind zone" alert.
