For 2008, the Cadillac DTS is virtually unchanged, save for new available safety features and a Platinum Edition option package.
The only front-wheel drive car in the Cadillac line-up, the DTS comes with a 4.6-litre V8 that produces 275 hp, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission; an optional high-performance 4.6-litre produces 292 hp and also uses the four-speed.
The DTS comes in a single trim line, and includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, automatic dual-zone climate control, eight-way heated leather seats, fixed rear seat with pass-through, fog lamps, front cornering lights, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, variable intermittent wipers, cruise control, tire pressure monitoring system, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, CD/MP3 stereo, Xenon headlamps, remote starter, and OnStar.
The Platinum Edition package includes the higher-horsepower engine, along with performance features including Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Algorithm shifting, and 18-inch chromed wheels, bright chrome grille and door inserts, interior wood inlay, full leather upholstery, leather instrument panel and door trim, unique floor mats, upgraded trunk mat, sunroof, navigation system, LED footwell lighting, leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and synthetic suede headliner and visors. A headrest-mounted rear DVD system is also available on the package.
A big sedan in the old-school Cadillac tradition, the DTS is nevertheless nimble and extremely comfortable. Should you need to carry more passengers, an optional divided front bench seat with eight-way power driver and passenger adjustments is available as an option, to allow for six passengers. The base engine is more than enough to move this car with confidence, but the higher-horsepower engine is well-fitted to the car, especially with the corresponding performance enhancements that improve the handling and ride. Cross-shop it against the Lincoln MKZ and Chrysler 300C.
