For years, magazines and industry insiders predicted Cadillac would launch a flagship sedan to compete with the world?s foremost luxury automobiles. That car is finally here.
The all-new CT6 goes toe-to-toe with the likes of the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and is sized appropriately. It rides on an all-new platform dubbed Omega, and uses extensive amounts of aluminum in its construction. Cadillac says that despite being 8.5 inches larger than the CTS, its curb weight is similar to the midsize sedan.
The CT6 is offered with three different engines ? a turbocharged four-cylinder, a naturally-aspirated V6, and an all-new 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Models powered by the 2.0T come with rear-wheel drive; both V6s come with all-wheel drive as standard. All feature GM?s latest eight-speed automatic transmission. As with its German rivals, there will be a plug-in hybrid variant, which will join the range at a later date.
A top-calibre automobile like the CT6 needs plenty of luxury doo-dads; the CT6 can certainly hold its own in this department. Front and rear-seat passengers can enjoy heated and cooled seats, quad-zone climate control, plus power recline and massage. And technophiles rejoice: the CUE infotainment system uses a 10.2-inch screen and is bolstered by a new touchpad controller, which sits right by the gear shift lever. An optional rear-view mirror uses a camera system to project a view out the back of the vehicle. And in a move of pure one-upmanship, the optional Bose sound system features 34 speakers. 34!
The standard of the world? It very well might be.
The CT6 is available in Standard Collection, Luxury Collection, Premium Luxury Collection, and Platinum Collection.
