For 2016, the middle child in Buick's sedan lineup is back with minor enhancements, like an IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system with new display screens and more intuitive controls.
Regal is available in four trim levels starting with a base model and moving up through Premium I, Premium II, and GS. The standard engine is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque; it comes paired with a six-speed automatic and the option of AWD, and a six-speed manual is a no-cost option on FWD models.
The other powertrain option is a 2.4L four-cylinder "e-assist," a mild hybrid with an electric motor that augments the gas engine's output, but can't move the car on its own. It comes exclusively in FWD and with the automatic transmission.
Fuel consumption ratings are 11.4/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway) for FWD turbocharged automatic cars, 11.6/7.6 for FWD turbo stickshift models, and 12.4/8.7 for AWD turbo automatic versions. Unsurprisingly, the e-assist powertrain is thriftiest, at 9.6/6.5 L/100 km.
Standard kit in all trims includes fog lights, IntelliLink infotainment system, leather seats, heated front seats, twelve-way power driver's seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror, backup camera, electric parking brake, and ambient lighting.
Base and Premium I cars get a seven-speaker stereo that's upgraded to a nine-speaker setup in Premium II and GS trims; All but the base model get standard intelligent keyless entry.
Available features include safety kit like lane change alert, lane departure warning, forward collision alert with collision mitigation braking, and side blind zone and rear cross traffic alerts.
Prices for FWD models range from $33,695 to $41,095, while AWD versions start at $36,195, and range to $43,595.
