For better or worse, Buick is what it is today because of big, comfortable sedans, just like the LaCrosse. With an all-new version of this full-sizer coming for 2017, this year's model gets just a few minor updates: the IntelliLink infotainment system gets a new look, and adds two USB ports; Premium AWD trims get new 20-inch wheels; and there are a trio of new paint colours.
LaCrosse comes in six distinct configurations -- base FWD, Leather FWD, Leather AWD, Premium I FWD, Premium I AWD, and Premium II FWD -- all of which come standard with a 3.6L V6 engine that makes 304 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. Base and Leather models can be optioned with a mild hybrid drivetrain Buick calls e-Assist, which pairs an electric motor with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine that together generate 197 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque, routed to the front wheels through a six-speed automatic.
Fuel consumption ratings are 13.7/8.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for 3.6L FWD models, and 13.8/9.0 in 3.6L AWD form. The 2.4L eAssist model is rated at 9.6/6.5.
Standard features shared across all trims include Bluetooth, IntelliLink with eight-inch touchscreen, backup camera, rear-seat side airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, electric parking brake, auto-dimming rearview mirror, eight-way power driver seat with four-way lumbar, remote start, and garage door opener.
Bi-xenon adaptive (steerable) headlights are optional on Leather, Premium I and Premium II models, and the Premium I and II packages include perforated leather seating.
Pricing starts at $36,525, and ranges to $43,375 for a Premium II FWD model; AWD models start at $42,475.
