History/Overview
It took Buick until 2016 to jump into the lucrative compact luxury crossover segment with the Envision, which was redesigned last year into a second generation.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Buick has shuffled a few of the Envision’s optional features around and lowered prices for some configurations.
Available Trims
Buick offers the Envision in Preferred, Essence, and Avenir trim levels. All are powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed transmission. AWD is optional in Preferred and standard in Essence and Avenir.
Standard Features
Envision Preferred comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights/taillights, hands-free tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, dual-zone A/C, 10.2-inch touchscreen, seven-speaker audio, power front seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
The Envision’s safety kit comprises forward collision mitigation, following distance indicator, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and rear park assist.
Essence adds an 8.0-inch touchscreen, heated rear seats, and leather upholstery.
Avenir brings 20-inch wheels, panoramic sunroof, nine-speaker audio, navigation, front park assist, head-up display, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, and surround-view cameras.
Key Options
All Envision trims offer a safety package of blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. A premium seat package adds front-seat lumbar and, in Avenir trim, a massage function.
In Essence trim, a Sport Touring pack adds 20-inch wheels and various cosmetic items. And a basic technology package brings front park assist, surround vision, navigation, Bose audio, a head-up display, and an integrated home remote.
An upgraded tech package (Essence and Avenir trims) adds adaptive cruise, automatic parking assist, digital rearview mirror, continuous damping control suspension, and enhanced collision avoidance.
Fuel Economy
Buick estimates the Envision’s fuel consumption at 10.0/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for FWD models, and 10.5/8.2 L/100 km with AWD.
Competition
The Buick Envision is a relatively relaxed driver in a field of (mostly) sportier crossover offerings, like the BMW X1 and X2, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Porsche Macan, Acura RDX, Lexus NX, Infiniti QX50, Cadillac XT5, Lincoln Corsair, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and Volvo XC60.
