The Encore is Buick's entry in the subcompact luxury crossover field. Buick has been in the mix here since 2013, making the Encore one of the oldest nameplates in the class. A tidy footprint makes it ideal for city driving, while a surprising spacious and quiet interior invites highway getaways. The Encore isn't as agile as some of its European competitors, but turbocharged engines combine good performance and fuel economy.
I am so very pleased with my purchase of my 2015 Buick Encore. It is attractive, comfortable, fuel efficient and lots of fun to drive. I would highly recommend the Encore for anyone looking for a small SUV.
On certain vehicles, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), which controls airbag and pretensioner deployment, contains a software defect which may prevent the deployment of frontal airbags and pretensioners in certain circumstances. Failure of frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to deploy in a crash (when warranted) could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will reflash the SDM with new software. In vehicles with any previous deployment events recorded in the SDM, the dealers will replace the existing SDM with a new SDM containing the latest software. Note: This recall affects 2014-2017 model year Sierra LD/Silverado LD models and 2015-2016 model year Sierra HD/Silverado HD model vehicles.
Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 – Tire Selection and Rims. The Tire and Loading Information Label does not contain the rim size information for the front or rear wheels, contrary to the requirements of the standard. This could result in incorrect replacement rims being installed on the vehicle, which could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will provide new corrected labels.
On certain vehicles, the steering column assembly housing may come into contact with the power steering printed circuit board. This contact could eventually cause enough wear on the power steering printed circuit board to cause a sudden loss of power steering assist. If the power steering assist is lost, a malfunction indicator light is displayed on the instrument panel to inform the driver. Steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but will require greater driver effort particularly at low vehicle speeds. The sudden change in steering effort may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the steering column assembly.
On certain vehicles, the front outboard driver and passenger seatbelt pretensioners may not function as designed in the event of a crash. The pretensioners could retract upon deployment but fail to lock in the retracted position, allowing the seat belt to return to the original position. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash that warrants seatbelt pretensioner deployment. Correction: Dealers will replace affected pretensioners.
On certain vehicles, the hook bracket assembly for either front seat may have been manufactured with an incomplete weld. If the weld is incomplete and the assembly is exposed to a high load condition, the hook may separate from the seat track. This could increase the risk of occupant injury during a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the weld, and if necessary, replace the lower seat track.
On certain vehicles, insulation on the engine block heater power cord may become damaged if the cord is handled during very cold days (temperatures below -25C). This could create an electrical shock hazard, which could result in personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the block heater cord.
On certain vehicles, welds on the passenger airbag end caps could separate from the airbag inflator. If this occurs, the airbag may not deploy properly. Failure of the passenger airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger airbag assembly.
Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 115 - Vehicle Identification Number. The character height is insufficient for the vehicle identification number located on the front dashboard cover. Correction: No corrective recall action is required as this technical non-compliance is deemed to be non-safety related.
