History/Overview
The BMW Z4 is a small car playing in a small field – roadsters aren’t much of a thing anymore. Introduced in the early 2000s, the Z4 followed up on the Z3 of the 1990s; the current Z4 debuted in 2019.

For 2022, ambient lighting is no longer standard, and wireless phone charging is gone altogether, even as an option.
Available Trims
BMW offers the Z4 in sDrive30i and M40i trims. The former uses a turbo four-cylinder engine, and the former a 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder. An eight-speed transmission is included with both.
Standard Features
The Z4 comes equipped with remote engine start, a heated steering wheel, an M sport package, auto-dimming mirrors, heated/power-adjustable seats, automatic A/C, forward collision warning, digital gauges, and Apple CarPlay.
M40i adds M sport brakes and differential, adaptive suspension, passive keyless entry, and automatic high beams.
Key Options
Buyers of the sDrive30i can add a performance package of sport differential, adaptive suspension, and a choice of different wheel designs.
A premium essential package brings a parking assistant, ambient lighting, driving assistant, and passive keyless entry. An enhanced premium group brings a Harman Kardon stereo, head-up display, and adaptive cruise.
Fuel Economy
BMW’s fuel consumption estimates for the Z4 are 9.4/7.3 L/100 km (city/highway) for the sDrive30i, and 10.7/8.0 L/100 km in the M40i.
