History/Overview
It wasn’t so long ago that the term “sport-oriented SUV” was an oxymoron, given the weight and tall ride height of a typical SUV. These days, though, sporty SUVs are becoming commonplace as automakers phase out slow-selling car models. At the moment, there are few SUV models that can claim a performance pedigree like the BMW X5 M, which takes the brand’s mid-size model and adds mechanical and handling parts from its M performance catalog to create a terrifyingly fast utility vehicle.
