History/Overview
BMW introduced the X2 in 2018 as its second entry in the subcompact luxury crossover category. It’s similar in size to the X1 but positioned as a sportier alternative focused on upscale looks over practicality.
Available Trims
BMW offers the X2 in xDrive28i and M35i trims, both powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine that’s tuned for more power in the latter trim. Both models are standard with an eight-speed transmission and AWD.
Standard Features
The xDrive28i comes with 19-inch wheels, leatherette seating, heated/power front seats, automatic A/C, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and navigation.
Safety features include tire pressure monitoring, dynamic cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure warning.
M35i trim adds bigger brakes, run-flat tires, an M aero package, and a rear spoiler.
Key Options
An xDrive28i M sport package brings sport seats and steering wheel, shift paddles, high-gloss exterior trim, and a rear spoiler.
Both models trims can be had with Premium Essential and Premium Enhanced packages. The first adds a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, a better stereo, passive keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, and an alarm. The latter builds on those items with auto-dimming/power-folding mirrors, navigation, a power tailgate, a head-up display, lumbar support, and a parking assistant.
Fuel economy
BMW’s fuel consumption estimates are 9.9/7.6 L/100 km (city/highway) for both X2 variants.
Competition
The X2 competes with the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz’s GLA-Class, Lexus UX, Buick Encore, Mini Countryman, Cadillac XT4 and Volvo XC40. There’s also some overlap with BMW’s own X1.
