History/Overview
The M8 is a new model for 2020, building on the 8 Series that launched in 2019. As the name suggests, the car is part of BMW's M family of high-performance models.
Available Trims
The M8 comes in a single trim in coupe, convertible and four-door Gran Coupe body styles. All are powered by a 4.4L turbocharged V8, xDrive all-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Standard Features
All M8 models come with an adaptive M suspension, four drive modes, black chrome grille, gloss black mirror covers, adaptive LED headlights with laserlight, brake-by-wire technology with drilled and vented brake rotors, an active M differential, remote engine start, 20-inch wheels, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, there's extended leather upholstery, carbon fibre trim, collision warning with cyclist and pedestrian detection and city braking, blind spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear cross traffic alert, a 12.3-inch gauge cluster display and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, soft-close doors, a surround-sound stereo with satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, a WiFi hotspot, drive recorder, and a parking assistant with 360-degree camera views.
M8 coupes get a carbon fibre roof, while the convertible has an insulated top that retracts in 15 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h.
Key Options
The M8's big extra is a Competition package that adds power and track-ready features.
A driving assistance professional package brings all-speed active cruise control, active lane keeping assist, traffic jam assistance, and a collision evasion aid.

BMW's fuel consumption estimates for the M8 are 16.0/11.0 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
BMW's key competitors here are the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, CLS-Class and S-Class coupe models. In a slightly different vein is the Audi RS 7 Sportback. Aston Martin has the Rapide AMR four-door and DB11 coupe.
