The M4 is all new for 2015, based on the new BMW 4-series chassis. This isn’t a new model though; the M4 is what you knew up until last year as the M3 coupe or convertible. The two-door models get a new name and are now the M4. The M4 is the go-to compact sports coupe, and carries the torch from the two-door M3 well. The M4 comes with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline six replacing the old V8 M3. But with direct injection and 425 hp, it's a more than adequate replacement. A six-speed manual is standard, and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic is an option.
Inside the M4 comes standard with push button start, a heated leather wheel, and heated power M-sport front seats with leather seats front and rear. There is an 8.8-inch display for the navigation equipped infotainment system, as well as BMW iDrive control and a 16 speaker Harman Kardon stereo. A sunroof is available as well on the coupe. There is a choice of nine different interiors, and numerous trim options, so you can make the inside look the way you really want it. There is also the choice of coupe or convertible body as well.
Outside are HID headlights and LED tail lights, with full LED adaptive headlights optional. There is an active rear differential, and M specific adjustable stability control. 19-inch wheels come standard, and you can fill them with the optional carbon ceramic brakes. Adaptive suspension with modes for sport and comfort is also available.
Available option packs include the Premium package with comes with a rear-view camera, parking sensors, heads-up info display and satellite radio. The Technology package comes with a universal remote (for your garage door), automatic high beams, and blind spot alert. The Executive package has active LED headlights, and a surround view camera.
Fuel economy for the M4 coupe is rated at 13.7 L/100 km city, 9.0 highway for the manual and 14.1/9.7 for the auto. The convertible scores 14.1/9.0 for the manual and 14.1/9.7 for the auto. If you're looking at the Audi S5, Jaguar F-type, Cadillac CTS-V or even Porsche 911, the M4 is always a threat.
