NEW FOR 2014:
-All-new model
BMW moves into new territory with the i3, an urban runabout that can be had as an electric car (BEV), or a hybrid of sorts that adds a small range-extending (REX) gasoline engine.
As a range-extender, the tiny 0.6L two-cylinder doesn't drive the car, but runs a generator that provides electricity to the battery pack and drive motor. The electric unit that powers the wheels makes 168 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, which it delivers through a single-speed trasmission.
Standard kit in electric and range-extended models includes 19-inch alloy wheels, brake energy regeneration, automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, knee airbags, power-folding side mirrors, ambient lighting, dynamic cruise control, tilt-and-telescopic steering, heated front seats, leather-and-cloth-trimmed seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, four-speaker stereo and auxiliary input, Bluetooth, navigation, and an on-board computer.
