For 2011, the BMW 7 Series discontinues the rear-wheel drive 750i and 750Li, leaving the all-wheel drive 750i xDrive and 750Li xDrive. The rear-wheel drive 760Li and ActiveHybrid 7 are unchanged. There is also a high-performance BMW Alpina B7 available, built by BMW in conjunction with Alpina.
The 7 Series is available in regular wheelbase, as the 750i xDrive, and in long wheelbase, as the 750Li xDrive and 760Li.
The 750i and 750Li models use a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine with six-speed automatic transmission. The 760Li uses a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 engine with eight-speed automatic transmission. The ActiveHybrid 7 uses the twin-turbocharged V8 with electric motor and eight-speed automatic transmission; it uses the electric motors to assist the gasoline engine and cannot run on its battery alone, but will shut off the gasoline engine at idle for improved fuel economy. The Alpina B7 uses the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 but tuned to 500 horsepower, mated to an Alpina-specific six-speed sport automatic transmission. It is all-wheel drive.

The long-wheelbase 750i xDrive model adds rear self-levelling air ride suspension.
The 760Li adds 20-inch alloy wheels, Dynamic Drive active roll stabilization, four-passenger seating, integral active steering, active blind-spot detection, active cruise control with Stop and Go, head-up display, lane departure warning, Night Vision with pedestrian detection, automatic soft-close trunk, M aerodynamic package, soft-close doors, Alcantara roof liner, M multifunction sport steering wheel, roof grab handles with wood inlay, ski bag, Nappa leather dash pad, active front seats with ventilation, comfort rear seats with massage function, climate comfort lamination windshield and glass, electric rear and side sunshades, six-DVD changer, dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, and Sirius satellite radio.
The ActiveHybrid 7 builds on the 750i and adds 19-inch alloy wheels and energy flow display.
The Alpina B7 builds on the 750i xDrive and includes 21-inch alloy wheels, active roll stabilization, automatic trunk, soft-close doors, rearview camera, electric rear and rear side sunshades, ventilated active front seats, Nappa leather upper instrument panel and door panels, ski bag, ceramic interior package, lane departure warning, active blind spot detection, active cruise control with stop and go, surround view with side-view cameras, head-up display, six-CD changer, Sirius satellite radio, rear entertainment system with wireless headphones, night vision with pedestrian detection, and Alpina-specific instrument cluster, front spoiler, piano black wood trim and emblems.
