The Audi TT’s look has evolved through the years, but this little two-seater arguably remains the most recognizable model in the company’s lineup. A 2016 redesign tautened up the car’s lines, and that look carries through to 2018 coupe and convertible variants that differ only in their addition of auto-dimming and power-folding heated side mirrors as standard equipment.
Power still comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that generates 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and comes mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and standard Quattro AWD.
Porsche’s Boxster and Cayman are more pure driver’s cars, but it’s hard to deny the TT’s combination of style and performance; its AWD underpinnings also make it easier to justify as a year-round proposition. However, if you’re keen on shifting gears yourself, Porsche may soon be the only car in this luxury coupe/roadster class that offers a manual transmission, pending what BMW does with its forthcoming replacement for the Z4. On the plus side, this Audi/VW dual-clutcher is at least as good as Porsche’s PDK, responding eagerly to manual input and at least partially making up for the lack of a three-pedal option.
Standard features in the TT’s single trim level include 18-inch wheels and tires, xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, garage door opener, music interface with nine-speaker stereo and satellite radio, selectable drive modes, Bluetooth, heated and power-adjustable Nappa leather sport seats, LED taillights and interior lighting, virtual cockpit customizable gauge cluster, automatic climate control, aluminum optic interior, rear parking sensors, MMI infotainment interface, auto-dimming and power-folding side mirrors and cruise control.
Options include an S line sport package that can be augmented with a competition group that brings more aggressive exterior styling elements. A driver comfort package is where you’ll find passive keyless entry, and the navigation option also includes a smartphone interface. Finally, LED headlights are a stand-alone extra.
Fuel consumption estimates are 10.1/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway).
