SUVs and crossovers may be popular, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants to drive a boxy utility vehicle. That’s where more stylish SUV coupes, like the Audi Q8, come in. Introduced in 2019, this is Audi’s crossover flagship, a mid-size model with seating for five under its rakish roof.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Audi Q8 gains a few new standard features in both of its trim levels, which we’ve detailed below.
Available Trims
Audi makes the Q8 in Progressiv and Technik trim levels. Both are powered by a 3.0L mild hybrid turbo V6 engine, an eight-speed transmission, and AWD. A more potent SQ8 variant is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Standard Features
New to this year’s Progressiv package are a heated steering wheel with shift paddles, upgraded interior lighting, front and rear music interface, wireless phone charging, and rear side airbags.
Carried forward from last year are 21-inch wheels, heated/auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights/taillights, panoramic sunroof, passive keyless entry. Inside, you’ll find four-zone A/C, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, auto-dimming mirror, Apple CarPlay, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, digital gauges, and satellite radio.
Safety features include rain-sensing wipers, 360-degree camera views, Audi pre sense front/rear, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, exit warning, automatic high beams, and an alarm with interior motion sensor.
Technik trim’s new-for-2022 additions are all safety-related: intersection assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, turn/emergency assist, active lane departure warning, predictive efficiency assist, and rear side airbags. Like last year’s model, Technik also brings adaptive air suspension, upgraded headlights with washers, animated taillights, adaptive wipers, soft-close doors, rear door sun shades, leather dash trim, a head-up display, and upgraded audio.
Key Options
Progressiv’s main option is a driver assistance package that adds all of the safety aids included in Technik models.
In Technik models, you can add massaging front seats and an air ionizer.
A dynamic package brings adaptive air suspension, and all-wheel steering.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates are 12.8/10.5 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
Audi’s primary Q8 competitors are the Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and the BMW X5/X6.
