History/Overview
Audi introduced the Q8 in 2019 as a new flagship SUV model. While it's pricier and more posh than the Q7, it only has two rows of seats and offers less cargo space owing to its sportier rear-end styling. The 2020 Audi Q8 gains a few new standard features, but is otherwise carried over from 2019.
Available Trims
Audi offers the Q8 in Progressiv and Technik trims. All models use a turbocharged V6 with mild hybrid assist, an eight-speed transmission and Quattro AWD.
Standard Features
New to the Q8 in Progressiv trim for 2020 are an upgraded version of the virtual cockpit digital gauge cluster, an alarm system with interior motion sensor, Amazon Alexa integration, and a first aid kit.
Progressiv trim exterior items include 20-inch wheels, self-leveling LED headlights, daytime running lights and taillights with dynamic rear turn signals, aluminum optics trim, four-zone climate control, an integrated garage door opener, an adaptive suspension, passive keyless entry, and heated/auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors.
The Q8 cabin comes equipped with navigation, a smartphone and music interface, ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, electric steering column adjustments, drive modes, a panoramic sunroof, Valetta leather seating, power/heated/ventilated front seats with driver memory and four-way power lumbar, heated rear seats, a comfort front armrest, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ash wood dash inlays.
Safety and driver assistance kit comprises 360-degree exterior camera views, front and rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, parking sensors and cameras, tire pressure monitoring, city-speed forward collision mitigation, rear collision mitigation, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, exit assist, and active cruise control.
Technik trim adds 21-inch wheels, power door closers, adaptive front wipers, touch-sensitive dash buttons, a head-up display, locking wheel bolts with loose wheel detection, rear-door sunshades, a leather dashboard, matrix LED headlights, a B&O 3D sound system, wireless smartphone charging, and an air ionizer with fragrance dispenser.
Key Options
A driver assistance pack offered in both trims adds more advanced active safety items, like active lane departure warning and intersection, traffic jam, turn and emergency assists, and traffic sign recognition.
Both trims can also be had with a sport package with different bumpers, door sills, and a rear spoiler.
There are four different ways to add unique 21- and 22-inch wheels, including two black optics packages.
Finally, Technik offers a sport air suspension bundled with four-wheel steering.
Fuel Economy
As of this writing, Audi had not published fuel consumption ratings for the 2020 Q8, but they should carry forward from the 2019 model, whose ratings were 14.0/10.7 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Q8 lives in the upper echelon of luxury SUVs, where competitors include the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe.
