Germany’s luxury automakers have a significant presence in the compact crossover class thanks to stylish and well-executed models like the Audi Q5. Following a 2008 debut, the Q5 was redesigned into a second generation in 2018.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Q5 adds some standard features, which we’ve detailed below.
Available Trims
Audi offers its compact crossover in Komfort, Progressiv and Technik trim levels. All three are offered in a 45 version with a 2.0L turbo mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine, and Progressiv and Technik can be optioned into a 55e plug-in hybrid configuration with more power and 37 km of all-electric driving.
Standard Features
For 2022, Komfort 45 trim adds passive keyless entry with a hands-free tailgate. Carried over from last year are rain-sensing wipers, auto on/off LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, and LED taillights. Inside, you’ll find heated/power front seats with driver lumbar, three-zone automatic A/C, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 10-speaker stereo powered by a 10.1-inch touchscreen, and a 7.0-inch driver info display.
Komfort’s driver safety assists are pre sense city/pre sense rear, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and an exit warning system.
Progressiv 45 and 55e’s new-for-2022 additions are ambient cabin lighting and Amazon Alexa. Also included are automatic high beams, power-folding/auto-dimming rearview mirrors, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, integrated garage door remote, navigation, virtual cockpit digital gauge cluster, and rear cross traffic alert.
Technik 45 and 55e add standard wireless charging for 2022, along with a full suite of driver assists: adaptive cruise, pre sense front, traffic congestion assist, traffic sign recognition, active lane assist, and hands-on detection. Carried forward from last year’s model are LED matrix-design headlights with washers, dynamic taillights, heated/cooled cupholders, heated rear seats, power steering wheel adjustments, a top-view camera, and a Bang & Olufsen stereo.
Key Options
To Komfort trim, you can add a convenience package of a heated steering wheel, power-folding/auto-dimming side mirrors, rear cross traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. You can also option in navigation.
An S line comfort interior package brings ventilated front seats and rear door sun shades to Progressiv and Technik.
Progressiv options include a top-view camera, and to Technik you can add a head-up driver display.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates for the Q5 are 10.3/8.4 L/100 km (city/highway) for 45 models; Q5 55 e’s ratings are 3.9 Le/100 km when running on electric power, and 9.4/8.8 L/100 km (city/highway) in gas-electric hybrid mode.
Competition
The Audi Q5 competes with other big German names, like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. There’s also the Volvo XC60, Cadillac XT5, Lincoln Corsair, Lexus NX, Acura RDX, and Land Rover Discovery.
