Last facelifted in 2013, Audi's midsize crossover the Q5 continues into 2017 with just some minor trim changes. Unlike most of Audi's lineup, the Q5 doesn't pretend to has sporting inspirations. Instead it assumes that those looking for sport will get an A4 or the SQ5 super-suv. That means that the Q5 rides very well. It doesn't match the BMW X3 for handling, but it has improved isolation. It's more quiet than the BMW but more predictable and steady than the Range Rover Evoque. The mild refresh means that the interior is starting to look a little bit more dated than some of the others (especially the Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport). But if you want a quiet, smooth riding smaller CUV there are worse places to look than the Audi Q5.
The Q5 is available with one transmission, quattro all-wheel drive, and a choice of engines. The gearbox choice is an eight-speed automatic. The engines are a turbocharged 2.0L four making 220 hp and a 3.0L supercharged six making 272 hp. The four is available in Komfort, Progressiv and Technik trims and the six is available in the two higher trims.
Komfort starts with 18-inch alloys, power tailgate, leather seats with heat and power adjustment, auto lights and wipers, 10-inch speakers, bi-xenon headlights, and a panoramic glass roof. Progressiv adds rear parking sensors, three-zone climate, push button start, and power folding mirrors. Technik gets 19-inch wheels, blind sport alerts, heated rear seats, and adaptive headlights. Optional on Komfort is a convenience pack with push button start, rear parking sensors, and power folding mirrors. Navigation comes with front parking sensors and a rear view camera as optional on progressiv and technik. An S line sport pack comes with 19-inch alloys, paddle shifters, sport seats, and s-line trim. Also on those two is an S line competition pack with 20-inch wheels, black trim, sport seats, and paddle shifters. Technick can also be optioned with a Bang & Olufsen stereo, as well as ventilated seats with upgraded leather. The 3.0 model can also get optional rear sunshades, adaptive damping, and radar cruise. The Q5 is rated at 12.0 L/100 km city and 8.5 highway with the four and 13.2/9.2 with the six.
