Following a mid-cycle freshening last year that included a hybrid drivetrain and a new V6 engine, the 2014 Q5 introduces a TDI diesel model, as well as the SQ5, the brand's first crossover offered as a high-performance S variant.
The diesel is a familiar 3.0L turbocharged V6 making 240 hp and loads of torque. In the SQ5, power comes from a pumped-up version of the 3.0TFSI V6, good for an impressive 354 hp. Base models continue to use a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder (which gains nine hp, for a total of 220), and the step up from that is a 3.0L V6 (also carried over) making 272 hp. A hybrid drivetrain returns, with its 245-hp four-cylinder gas/electric combo powerplant.
An eight-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic manual control is standard with all engines.
Q5 2.0 Komfort trim includes 18-inch 10-spoke wheels, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, power tailgate, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, music interface, leather steering wheel, heated front seats with power adjustment and driver lumbar, black roof rails, heated and power-adjustable outside mirrors and LED taillights.
Progressiv trim adds 18-inch five-spoke wheels, driver seat memory, aluminum roof rails, auto-dimming interior mirror with compass, high-gloss exterior trim, aluminum interior trim, power-folding outside mirrors, rear park assist system, Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), three-zone climate control and colour driver information display.
3.0TFSI and TDI Progressiv models get 18-inch 10-spoke wheels.
Technik models include Homelink, panoramic sunroof, heated rear seats, intelligent keyless entry, side assist and steerable Xenon headlights.
3.0TFSI and TDI Technik versions get 18-inch five-spoke wheels.
Q5 Hybrid trim builds on the Technik package, and adds 19-inch wheels and backup camera.
The SQ5 gets 20-inch wheels, flat-bottom steering wheel, rear-seat load-through provision and nappa leather sport seats.
