Audi added the A7 Sportback to its lineup in 2012 to bridge the gap between the mid-size A6 and full-size A8 sedans.
In Audi parlance, Sportback indicates that the A7 has a large hatchback cargo opening. This isn't the only car to hide a hatch in a body shaped like a sedan, but it's one of the most attractive interpretations of this flexible vehicle type.
Audi updated the A7 in 2016.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
The Audi A7 Sportback is redesigned for 2019. It cuts a profile similar to that of its predecessor, but there are new details like angular headlights and taillights and a high-tech interior with a dash designed around two centre stack touchscreens and an optional digital gauge cluster.
Available Trims
Audi sells the A7 Sportback in Progressive and Technik trims. Both share a mild-hybrid 3.0L V6 powertrain that makes 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and comes matched with a seven-speed automatic transmission and quattro AWD.
Standard Features
Progressiv trim comes with 19-inch wheels, engine auto start-stop, navigation, a smartphone interface, leather seating, forward collision warning with automatic braking, rain-sensing wipers, electric steering wheel adjustments, three-zone automatic climate control, passive keyless entry, eight-way power front seats with driver lumbar, heated front and rear seats, power tailgate, power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors, leatherette dashboard trim, front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.
Technik models add power door closers, lighted door sills, HD matrix LED headlights, Bang & Olufsen stereo, 360-degree exterior camera views, head-up display, ambient lighting, front passenger lumbar, headlights washers, virtual cockpit gauge cluster, power rear window shade, manual side window shades, ventilated front seats, four-zone climate control and adaptive front wipers.
Key Options
Progressiv trim can be optioned with the Technik's matrix LED headlights.
Both trims offer S Sport Line and Driver Assistant packages, and Technik can be fitted with 14-way front seats with massagers and Valcona leather, and 21-inch wheels.
Fuel economy
Audi's fuel consumption estimates for the A7 are 10.7/8.2 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
A7 Sportback direct competitors include the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes-Benz's CLS Coupe and the Porsche Panamera.
Another German car, the Volkswagen Arteon, sports a similar hatchback rear opening at about two-thirds the A7's base price.
