The second generation of the Audi A5 is due to be unveiled shortly, which means that the 2016 models may be the last hurrah for the highly lauded first generation that has held its own for nearly a decade.
Shoppers can opt for either the coupe or convertible, both of which come equipped with Audi’s 2.0 TFSI engine (220 hp, 258 lb-ft of torque) and quattro all-wheel drive system.
Those who prefer to shift their own gears will be pushed into the coupe (starts at $44,700; 10.6/7.3 L/100 km city/hwy with six-speed manual transmission), though it can also be equipped with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic (starts at $46,300; 11.0/7.8 L/100 km).
The coupe’s base Komfort trim offers 18” wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated and power front seats and exterior mirrors, and a 10-speaker sound system, among other features.
The cabriolet can be equipped only with the automatic transmission and skips the base Komfort trim, which means that standard equipment starts at the Progressiv level (from $60,400; 11.3/8.0 L/100 km).
This middle trim, which adds the same features to the coupe, includes driver’s seat memory, three-zone climate control, auto-dimming mirrors, rear parking sensors, and a navigation system.
At the top Technik trim, a Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker sound system is included as well as a trim-specific wheel design, a rear-view camera, adaptive headlights with cornering, and the Audi Side Assist lane-change assistant.
Both the coupe and the cabriolet can have the S Line Sport Package added to tack on sport seats and suspension, 19” wheels with performance tires, and other sport-oriented appearance tweaks. The coupe also has a more basic sport package available as well as the more premium S Line Competition Package.
