For 2008, the Audi A4 line-up receives trim and equipment upgrades, including S Line packages as standard equipment on the 3.2 sedan and Avant models.
The A4 is available as a four-door sedan, four-door Avant (station wagon) and two-door cabriolet (convertible). Engine choices are a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the 2.0T models, or naturally-aspirated 3.2-litre V6 engine in the 3.2 models. Both use Fuel Straight Injection (FSI). The 2.0-litre sedan and cabriolet are available in front-wheel or Quattro all-wheel configuration, while the 3.2-litre sedan and cabriolet and all Avant models are Quattro only. The high-performance S4 and RS4 models are covered here in a separate section.
Sedan and Avant models use a six-speed manual transmission; the Quattro all-wheel versions can be optioned to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and driver-selectable Dynamic Shift program. The front-wheel drive Cabriolet uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while Quattro models use the six-speed automatic.
Features on the 2.0T Front-Trak sedan include 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic wheel, variable intermittent wipers with heated washer nozzles, heated mirrors, front and rear fog lamps, power windows, cruise control, power locks with keyless entry, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, 60/40 folding rear seat, black or platinum cloth upholstery, floor mats, centre console, trip odometer, and six-CD/MP3 stereo.
The 2.0T Front-Trak cabriolet adds leather upholstery, active rollover protection and headlight washers.
The 2.0T Quattro models add 17-inch alloy wheels, 12-way driver and 4-way passenger power-adjustable heated leather seats, and front seatback net pockets.
The 3.2 Quattro models add sport suspension, 12-way driver and 4-way passenger power-adjustable sport heated leather seats, and dark walnut wood trim.
New for 2008 is the Special Edition, available on the 2.0T sedan and Avant models, which adds rain-sensing wipers, light sensor with "coming home" feature, driver's side memory seat, power passenger seat, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, compass, bi-Xenon headlamps and S-Line appearance package.
Nicely sized, well-powered and in a full range of body styles, including a practical wagon, the A4 is a well-rounded model. All feature Audi's trademarks of superb fit and finish, rock-solid feel and responsive steering, although the top-line models can quickly work their way up the price scale. The new Special Edition package gives buyers a chance to really trick out this handsome car.
