For 2007, the A4 undergoes a few trim changes that streamline the series. The 2.0T has two main option packages, the Premium and Convenience; there are new wheel designs; a trip computer is available with the Convenience package; heated rear seats are no longer available; and the 2.0T gets a four-spoke leather-wrapped multifunction wheel, while the S-Line package retains the three-spoke.
On the 3.2, a sunroof is now standard equipment; there is a new wheel design; a three-spoke steering wheel with partially-perforated leather is standard, and includes shift paddles with the automatic transmission. The 3.2 Cold Weather Package includes heated rear seats; and a driver seat and mirror memory, rear Parktronic and sport suspension are optional.
The A4 cabriolet was a carryover 2005 model in 2006, and now joins the line-up with similar 2007 styling and drivetrains.
The A4 comes in a broad range: body styles are a four-door sedan, four-door Avant (station wagon) and two-door cabriolet. All models come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder or 3.2-litre V6 engine; both use Fuel Straight Injection (FSI), which combines higher horsepower and torque with increased fuel efficiency. Audi claims the 2.0T is the world’s only turbocharged FSI direct-injection engine. The sedan and Avant come with six-speed manual or automatic transmission, while the cabriolet is automatic only. On front-wheel-drive vehicles, the automatic is a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The 2.0T sedan comes in front-wheel or Quattro all-wheel drive configuration. Features include 16-inch alloy wheels, side and curtain airbags, manually-adjustable driver’s seat, electrically-adjustable lumbar adjustment for driver and passenger, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, power windows, heated mirrors, cloth seats, satellite radio preparation, and six-CD stereo.
The 3.2 sedan is Quattro only, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels, power sunroof, and electrically-adjustable heated leather seats.
The 2.0T Avant comes only with Quattro all-wheel drive, and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, power outlet in the rear cargo area, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, heated leather seats, 60/40 folding rear seat, brushed aluminum roof rails, satellite radio preparation, and six-CD stereo.
The 3.2 Avant is also Quattro-only, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels and power sunroof.
The 2.0T cabriolet comes in front-wheel or Quattro all-wheel drive, and includes 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, driver information system, power heated leather seats, heated mirrors, high-pressure headlight washers, satellite radio preparation, and six-CD changer.
The 3.2 cabriolet is Quattro only, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels and wind deflector.
The A4 is a busy model, with three body lines and even more variations if you count its S4 and RS4 siblings. All feature Audi’s trademarks of superb fit and finish, rock-solid feel and responsive steering. Its Quattro system is pretty much considered the benchmark, along with Subaru, and its wagon configuration is a welcome model in an industry that still hasn’t entirely embraced this size of cargo hauler. The cabriolet finally comes up as a full member of the family, offering good driving characteristics with the added pleasure of open-air motoring.
