History/Overview
Audi has been in the business of combining station wagon and SUV attributes for more than 20 years in its Allroad models, of which there is currently one – the A4 Allroad. Not for nothing, this is the only way to get the A4 in the shape of a station wagon, for which we think the car’s taller ride height and black fender arches are fine trade-offs.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
This year, the A4 Allroad’s entry trim gets a few new standard features.
Available Trims
Audi offers the A4 Allroad in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trim levels. All share a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid assist, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, and AWD.
Standard Features
Komfort trim’s new-for-2023 additions are power-folding/auto-dimming mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and phone integration, and rear cross-traffic alert. Those items build on kit carried over from 2022, which includes 18-inch wheels, auto on/off LED headlights, passive keyless with hands-free tailgate, heated/power front seats, three-zone A/C, an auto-dimming interior mirror, a panoramic roof, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, and a 10-speaker stereo.
Also included are forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitor, and an exit warning system.
Progressiv trim also adds wireless phone charging and integration as standard this year, along with items carried over from 2022, including navigation, digital gauges, Audi connect, and Amazon Alexa integration.
Technik trim carries over unchanged, and comes fitted with upgraded headlights with washers, heated rear seats, an upgraded stereo, adaptive cruise, top-view cameras, active lane assist, and hands-on detection.
Key Options
New this year is a competition package for Progressiv and Technik that adds 19-inch wheels, sport seats, black exterior trim elements, faux leather door trim, and an adaptive suspension.
A comfort interior package (Progressiv and Technik) brings ventilated sport seats with lumbar, and rear door sunshades.
Stand-alone extras include a head-up display, park assist, and a delete for the black fender cladding.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.1/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The A4 Allroad’s direct competitive field is pretty sparse, being limited to the Volvo V60 Cross Country. You can also line the Audi up against the Subaru Outback in its top Premier trim, though it won’t be as sporty or luxurious. Otherwise, consider the Allroad as an alternative to the vast array of compact and subcompact luxury crossovers in today’s marketplace.
