History/Overview
As one of Audi’s least-expensive models, the A3 sedan brings big style to the upscale subcompact car segment and is an attractive alternative to the crossovers that dominate the entry-level end of today’s luxury car marketplace.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, Audi has redesigned the A3 into a new generation.
Available Trims
Audi offers the A3 in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trims. All are powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine with mild hybrid assist, a seven-speed transmission, and all-wheel drive.
A sportier S3 variant is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.
Standard Features
Komfort trim comes with an auto start/stop system, auto on/off LED headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, and passive keyless entry. Inside, there are heated front seats with power driver’s seat adjustments, leather upholstery, dual-zone A/C, a panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10-speaker audio, and a digital gauge display.
Standard safety kit includes rain-sensing wipers, forward collision mitigation, and tire pressure monitoring.
Progressiv trim builds on Komfort with 18-inch wheels, ambient lighting, a power front passenger seat, four-way front-seat lumbar, an auto-dimming mirror, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and exit warning.
A3 Technik models gain auto-dimming/power-folding side mirrors, advanced LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, integrated garage door remote, navigation, traffic sign recognition, an upgraded gauge cluster, Bang & Olufsen audio, and automatic high beams.
Key Options
A tech package bundles wireless phone charging with a garage door remote and (in Komfort trim) blind spot monitoring. A navigation option brings with it an upgraded gauge cluster.
The advanced driver assist pack adds adaptive cruise control, active cruise assist, and (in Progressiv models) automatic high beams.
In Progressiv models, you can add an advanced LED headlight pack with LED daytime running lights.
Fuel Economy
Audi’s fuel consumption estimates for the A3 are 8.5/6.6 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Audi A3 mainly competes with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and CLA-Class, and the BMW 2 Series. Other competitors are the Acura ILX, and Cadillac CT4. There’s also some crossover with the Subaru WRX, Volkswagen Jetta GLI, Hyundai Elantra N, and Honda Civic Si.
