There were no changes for Acura's midsize luxury sedan, the TL, for 2014, in anticipation of an all-new, smaller, TLX for 2015. The TL comes standard with a 3.5L V6 making 280 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque that's paired with a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
Standard equipment includes an eight-speaker stereo, ambient interior lighting, and 10-way power adjustable seats with heat and leather. An available technology package includes a 60 GB hard drive and navigation system, rear-view camera, a premium 440-watt stereo, and perforated leather.
Adding Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (all-wheel drive with torque vectoring to route power as needed to help cornering) upgrades the engine to a 3.7L V6 making 305 hp and makes an optional six-speed manual available. It also adds a sport steering wheel and sport suspension.
On both all-wheel drive and front-drive cars, an A-spec package upgrades to 18-inch (on FWD) or 19-inch (on AWD) wheels, adds side skirts, a front bumper lip, and trunk spoiler, and contrasting stitching. It also includes proximity keyless entry and push button start. On top of the awd with Technology package, an Elite pack adds blind spot monitoring and ventilated front seats.
The Acura TL is rated at 11.8 L/100 km city, 8.1 highway with the base V6, the all-wheel drive and larger engine rate 12.8 city, 9.0 highway with the automatic and 13.4/9.5 with the manual.
The TL competes against the Volvo S60, the Infiniti Q50 and the Lexus ES. While the Acura is older than the competition, it remains a nice interior, and the super handling all-wheel drive makes for a competently handling car.
