For 2016, Acura's mid-size MDX crossover keeps current with the addition of new safety technology and an updated drivetrain.
Under the hood, the 3.5L V6 (290 hp/267 lb-ft of torque) is now paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which replaces last year's six-speed. Acura's excellent SH-AWD system remains standard.
Also new is a suite of active safety features dubbed AcuraWatch. Standard in all MDX trims, it comprises adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking with pedestrian recognition, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, and a multi-angle backup camera. Other tech options available include blind spot and rear cross traffic monitoring.
Natural Resources Canada fuel consumption ratings are 12.7/9.1 L/100 km (city/highway) in all trims but the top-end Elite model. Its addition of engine idle stop start cuts consumption estimates to 12.2/9.1.
Standard features include LED headlights and taillights, 18-inch wheels, power sunroof, wiper-linked headlight operation, auto-dimming rearview mirror, gauge cluster with TFT display, Bluetooth, one-touch turn signals, power tailgate, power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, intelligent keyless entry, remote engine start, tri-zone automatic climate control, eight-speaker sound system, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, 10-way driver and eight-way power front passenger seats, and leather upholstery.
Pricing starts at $52,990. A navigation package adds navigation, 19-inch wheels, surround-sound stereo, and blind spot monitor. The Tech package adds a rear-seat DVD player and heated rear seats, and the Elite gets ventilated front seats, LED fog lights, upgraded wood trim, and engine idle stop-start.
