For 2009, the Acura CSX receives new frontal styling that puts it in line with the company's new "face", as well as new standard features on all lines.
Exclusive to the Canadian market, the CSX shares its platform with the Honda Civic, and is Acura's entry model. All use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, but it makes 155 horsepower in the CSX and CSX Technology, mated to a five-speed manual transmission or optional five-speed automatic; in the Type-S, it makes 197 horsepower, and exclusively uses a close-ratio six-speed manual.
Features on the CSX include 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, active front head restraints, tire pressure monitoring system, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, fog lights, front splash guards, power sunroof, illuminated vanity mirrors, leather-wrapped wheel with audio controls, auto up/down driver's window, power locks with keyless entry, variable intermittent wipers, CD/MP3/WMA stereo with auxiliary input and USB port, floor mats, heated leather seats, and 60/40 split-folding rear seat.
The Technology adds xenon headlamps, navigation system with voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, stereo with digital audio card reader, and XM satellite radio.
The Type-S adds sport-tuned suspension, limited-slip differential, larger front and rear stabilizer bars, brake assist, wing spoiler, illuminated foot well, premium stereo with subwoofer, and leather seats with high-contrast stitching.
A solid performer, the CSX is well-balanced and fun to drive, with upscale appointments that differentiate it from the Civic upon which it's based. The Type-S ups the power and performance in a nicely-sized envelope. All models are an excellent entry into the Acura family without straying too far from the Civic's upper-end prices.
